What are automotive stamping parts?
May. 14, 2025
Automobile stamping parts, as the name implies, are metal stamping parts that constitute automotive parts. Among automotive stamping parts, some become automotive parts directly after stamping, while the other parts need to be welded, machined, or painted before they can become automotive parts. There are many varieties of automotive stamping parts, such as automobile shock absorber stamping parts spring tray, spring seat, spring bracket, end cover, cover, compression valve cover, compression valve sleeve, oil seal seat, bottom cover, dust cover, impeller, oil cylinder, lug, bracket, etc. are all automotive stamping parts.
Stamping is the process of stamping sheet metal parts into shape using molds according to design requirements. Stamping technology occupies an important position in the automotive manufacturing process and is the first step in vehicle manufacturing. At present, most car bodies are made of steel plates and alloys, and they are all stamped to form the appearance that designers want. The stamped parts include: left/right front fender, left/right outer panel, side panel rear (left/right rear fender), four doors, top cover, trunk panel, floor, front panel, etc.
Three elements of stamping: stamping equipment, stamping die, and stamping sheet.
Stamping equipment is the so-called stamping machine, which can realize cutting, punching, bending, riveting, forming and other operations. The selection of stamping equipment is generally based on production quantity, equipment size, etc. Generally speaking, the stamping equipment of vehicle manufacturers is divided into 2500 tons, 2000 tons, 1600 tons, 1000 tons, 800 tons, 500 tons, etc.
Stamping dies are an important part of the production of various industrial products. They form raw materials in a specific shape. Dies have become an important indicator of the development level of modern industry and one of the important signs of measuring a country's manufacturing level. Stamping dies can be divided into four basic units: blanking, bending, drawing, and forming. According to the degree of process combination, they can also be divided into single process dies, compound dies, continuous dies, etc. Consider the cost factor in the design stage, try to consider opening fewer molds, and keep records of mold changes and modifications to prevent unnecessary troubles.
Stamping sheet: The car body is generally made of low-carbon steel, and the frame and cover of the car body are mostly made of stamped steel plates. The special steel plate for the car body has the characteristics of not easy to crack during deep drawing. According to different positions of the car body, galvanized steel plates are used in rust-prone parts, such as fenders, roofs, etc. High-strength steel plates are used in some parts that bear greater stress, such as radiator support beams, upper side beams, B-pillars, etc. The thickness of the steel plate commonly used in the car body structure is 0.6mm~3mm, and the thickness of most parts is 0.8mm~1.0mm.
When selecting materials, first select metal materials with different mechanical properties according to the type and use characteristics of automobile stamping, so as to achieve the purpose of both ensuring product quality and saving materials.
Usually, the following principles should be followed when selecting materials for automobile stamping parts: a. The selected materials should first meet the performance requirements of automobile parts; b. The selected materials should have good process performance; c. The selected materials should have good economy.
